Traffic

I suspect that the majority of this blog's views come from me checking in to see if Rick has posted yet, ha ha. Nothing held against him or anything—he's a busy man and doesn't have hours upon hours to waste every day as I do. Has priorities and that sorta thing. Maybe there's a setting or way of subscribing to the blog to let me know when a new post has been made?

Anyway, as it's been a good long while since the last post, I figured I'd post another, at last breaking the pattern.

This vid...I don't much know what to say about.

Whoever edited this video is a mad, creative genius. Taking this ghetto booty-shaking video which was likely originally accompanied by really bad hip-hop, and fusing it with some drum and bass track seamlessly, compiling a thing of unequivocal beauty.

Best part? Around 0:43 when the wide chick (well, the really wide one that doesn't look like Gamera: in other words, the one in black pants and white—or yellow—shirt) really goes at it, rockin' and jigglin' and wobblin' in sync to beat and rhythm of the edited-in track. It's just too perfect; the two pieces were made to be brought together since before the dawn of time. It is my belief that God ordained for this video to be made and enjoyed by the masses. Here is my contribution to help spread it to the people...

Prime Directive #1: Advertise

Here it is, the followup to my "Best commercial" post: my second favorite commercial I had mentioned.

What is it? Well, it's a Korean commercial featuring RoboCop advertising fried chicken.

This thing makes me giggle with glee. I don't know what the actual brand name is, but it sounds like "What the Hell? Frieda Chicken!", and that little jingle at the end makes the name so much better.

There are many memorable quotes in these thirty seconds of glory. Sayings that we should all use in our everyday lives in the kitchen or at a restaurant, such as, "Yo! I'm about to eat," when we sit down to feast; or, "Can I get a dessert?" when we're ready for that after-dinner delicious treat; and, when entering a KFC, looking at the buffet with astonishment, exclaiming (albeit in a monotonous, bassy tone), "Oh, what the hell, frieda chicken."

Truly a magnificent commercial—especially since it stars RoboCop, the first film of his coming close to being my favorite, following Blade Runner (which reigns supreme, particularly Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut).

For some reason, there are a variety of other RoboCop commercials from Asian countries, mostly Japan. East Asia (or at least Japan and South Korea) must have been pretty obsessed with the guy for a while. I'll post the ones that I know of, seeing as how they all tickle my fancy.

RoboCop is grateful for his noodles.

RoboCop knows the perfect solution for eradicating cockroaches.

RoboCop endorses new, sophisticated machines—Sony VCRs, just what the video people of the world were expecting.

I want some of that super swing system. And super surround...something.

Those are the ones that I'm aware of. I hope to discover more Asian commercials with RoboCop advertising food and household appliances.

Way Late Christmas Goodness

Man, I can't believe Chris has waited this long. It's been a while, and I'm sorry. I'm in the process of moving back to the great state of North Carolina. Lots to do, and lots to finish at work.

Anyways, I wanted to share this soon after Christmas, because it's kind of along the same lines as Chris' post. Something no one has seen in a brand everyone knows. Star War's Holiday Special. That's right, something that was so bad, it was aired on TV once, and never again, and there are no legit copies out there. No DVDs to buy, no official VHS even. For a long time, the only way to get this is to have someone who has a copy of the originally aired program to make you a copy. That's how bad this was. Here I link the fist part of the broadcast, which you can watch wholly on YouTube if you so desire.

And here is the Wiki for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star_Wars_Holiday_Special

Have a Turtley Awesome Krizmaz!

Thought I might save this for tomorrow, but figured I'll get it out of the way now instead.

Below you will see the 1994 Ninja Turtles Christmas special, We Wish You a Turtle Christmas (in three parts). It's awful, and I love it. I recently bought the tape, but will be unable to enjoy it due to my brother's VCR not being here at the moment. Poo. :(

But I hope you enjoy!

Merry Christmas, folks (if more than Rick and I read this blog).

Merry Christmas Eve

I don't have a Christmas themed commercial, but I do have something that fits the theme. My wife showed me this one, and it really gets stuck in your head if you can stand to watch the whole thing. I catch myself singing it occasionally, and I've only seen it once.

Here is my favorite commercial ever. For your viewing pleasure. Oddly enough, semi-music themed as well! =D

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Best commercial

Truly the greatest commercial I've ever seen. (Though there's a close contender, which will be saved for a future post.)

This was directed by one of my favorite filmmakers, Shinya Tsukamoto, and features music by one of my favorite bands, Nine Inch Nails. The latter needs no introduction nor explanation, but let me tell you a bit about Tsukamoto.

He's crazy. He's insanely gifted. He did this little black and white independent film in the late '80s called Tetsuo: The Iron Man. It's my favorite of his films, and one of my absolute favorite movies ever. Go see it. It's available to watch on YouTube.

The MTV Japan advert above was done in the same hyperkinetic weird-out style as the first Tetsuo film. Wild stop-motion, body horror, clangy sounds, all with a strong punk/cyberpunk attitude. Tetsuo, this commercial, and the short film Denchu Kozo no boken (which translates to The Adventure of the Young Electricity Pole Priest or something absurd like that, and can be viewed on YouTube—I recommend it) are the only films of Tsukamoto's, to my knowledge, which are done in this style—though other films, like Sogo "Dragon" Ishii's superb(ly noisy) Electric Dragon 80000V (trailer) capture the same kind of look and feel as these.

Right. Buncha shaznat nobody else really cares about, but at least I get to pour my heart out.

Also, whether or not Rick posts between then and now, I'll probably make a holiday-themed post on Christmas Eve or Day, possibly breaking the "Ricky-Chris-Ricky-Chris-Ricky-Chris" post sequence we've got going on. But it's Christmas! Something must be posted! So here's to hoping Ricky posts a Christmas-themed somethingorother before I post my garbage crapola.

Old Gregg

The Holidays always make me think of this. Every Christmas I get a bottle of Baileys. And when I think of Baileys, I think of Old Gregg. =D

Now you get to as well. "This one is as close as you can get to Baileys without getting your eyes wet." I laugh every time.

Also, because they are trying to get the "funk," I think it holds true (a little, by a long stretch) to the theme of music....? No, it really doesn't. But don't say I didn't try.

For good measure, here is a song I've been listening to a lot lately:

I don't know if there is a video for this song or not, but I do love it.
